Yesterday while we were in the city, I tried out a few banjos. I settled with a used one that’s in great condition.
It is an open- backed Epiphone 5- string banjo that I found on Kijiji. It’s fun to learn to play! It’s interesting, the last two instruments I’ve gotten (banjo and mandolin), were from some pretty “unique” characters!
Now I can play a real banjo, instead of having to edit a picture of me. Last year while researching and writing up a report about banjos to convince dad, I edited this picture together:)
Watch this 1 minute movie where quintuplet Micah will play Amazing Grace for you, playing all 5 of his instruments at once! Warning: I will not be able to do this in public:)
The Creation Celebration is a family friendly conference that occurs in the end of Feb./beginning of March every year in North Battleford, SK. A lady organizes it for Creation Science of SK (CSSI). This year was our 2nd year to go. Here are some of the events!
On Saturday we did memory verses. Andrew recited Psalm 100. I recited John 1:1-14
Jesse recited 1 Peter 4
and Josh recited Romans 1:16-32.
These are some of the medals we received for doing speech arts, family music and Scripture recitation. Everyone that recited scripture also got vouchers to spend at the CSSI book table!
Anyone that plays an instrument practices with the orchestra and then performs the hymns which were arranged by the conductor.
And then is Bible Quizzing! There were four age level groups. The group Andrew was in joined the group I was in for a few quizzes. Everyone received numerous prizes from the prize table for their involvements in quizzing! It is “non-competitive” to encourage everyone to be involved.
Levi’s up to bat! The older kids group was a little more, uh, animated (competitive??) as you can see…
There were also tables of science experiments and projects.
The whole idea behind the day is to play godly music, memorize scripture and be able to speak well in front of others to share your faith. We had a great time and hope to go again next year!
I know this is quite out of season, but a few people have been asking us how the carrot washer works. So here is a list of steps.
Step 1- Plug in and start the engine and water hose.
Step 2- Dump the carrots in the chute. The carrot washer has an angled slope to the other end, so the carrots usually go there by themselves.
Step 3- Quality control sifts through the carrots at the other end, cutting spots off.
Step 4- Grab the tray of carrots that has filled and set it on the ground and quickly place a new tray for filling. Go through steps 2- 4 again if the carrots are not clean enough!
So, here is a short video. Usually we have three people on the carrot washer and go a lot faster than shown here. Sorry about the quality of the video.
For the last 23 years, Saskatchewan Home Based Educators have had an annual convention. Saskatoon Inn has provided great service for most of the years with the big conference rooms and hotel rooms in one facility. It has usually been there, other than for a few times when it has been in Regina. Our family has gotten more involved in helping organize the convention in the past few years. Our duties this year were:
Performing music for the opening and Grad Ceremony (most of our family played for the opening but we didn’t get a picture).
Mom organized the Home Education Completion Ceremony.
Dad was the MC for the grad. He read the information about the graduates, as they walked up. Levi was supposed to, but the grad started at 6:45 and Levi only got there after 8:00 because of work. Last year there were 17 graduates, but this year there were only 3! Note Dad’s tie. Must be a special occasion!:)
Our family did a Family Ministry Workshop during the convention! Levi was also on a grad panel.
The men (No, we’re not boys) of our family also were responsible to help move the vendors in and back out of the convention hotel.
We had a good time listening to speakers at sessions and visiting with friends in between!
